Cottage Pie

1/4 cup butter
1 cup onion -- diced
1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
salt
pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground savory
1 cup brown gravy
2 cups potatoes, mashed
additional butter
Melt butter in a skillet and saute onion until it is lightly browned.
Add beef, salt, pepper, savory and cook until ground beef is no longer pink.
Stir in gravy and heat until mixture is heated through and bubbling.
Place mixture in an 8 cup flat casserole dish that is lightly buttered.
Place mashed potatoes on top of meat mixture and dot with butter.
Back at 400 degrees for 30 minutes or until potatoes are lightly browned.

NOTES : Jennia's notes: made this for a traditional English meal (a la Harry Potter) and Drew loved it. Since I didn't have savory I added a pinch each of Marjoram, Thyme, Sweet Basil, Sage and Parsley.
I might add frozen peas and carrots next time to make this a one-dish meal next time.
